Audition for “The Voice”?
So, I was contacted to audition for the TV show “The Voice”. Here is their email to me and my email back. :)
My name is Tobin and I work for McNulty Casting LLC. We do all of the casting for NBC’s Emmy Award winning show The Voice. I really dig your voice man…you’ve taken on some good rock songs and done them justice. I would love to setup an appointment for you to audition for the show. Yes, I’m for real :) I’m not spam and I’m being honest with you!
Please contact me as my info is below and let’s set this up.
I sincerely appreciate the kind words and offer, but I’m afraid I have to decline.
While I’m sure that many talented people audition and are a part of the show, I personally find it to be a negative influence on music and actual musicians everywhere. I also find that it perpetuates a negative stereotype for creative young people that think that they need to “sing like this”, “look like this” or “move like this” in order to “make it” in the current broken music industry. These types of competitive shows are also another reason why people currently don’t respect music or musicians. Art should not be exploited like everything else on television for financial gain. I also don’t respect a “musician” that would choose to judge other musicians for the soul purpose of heightening their own fame and financial gain. To imagine such individuals judging whether or not I was “good enough” disgusts me in a deep way and makes me want to race toward leaving this planet.
Creating meaningful art and expressing oneself should not be a competition. If there’s one thing we need less of in this world, it’s more people creating art so that they can try to make money and be famous.
I apologize for the boring lecture but thank you again for the kind words.
